As a tribute to Temby Trumpet Artist and one of Australia's famous soloists - Bob Venier, we have now named our latest Vintage Series Trumpet .... The Temby ... Bob Venier "B.V." Trumpet.

The Temby Vintage Trumpet is the horn of choice of trumpet heavy weights like Paul Thorne (SYD) Eric Bolvin (USA) and many others, and now, as a fitting tribute to Bob Venier, our latest incarnation of this trumpet model is named after him. This trumpet suits the player looking for a slightly darker sound than the Temby lacquered pro trumpet, but still requiring loads of core to the tone, volume and reliability. Features a harmonically resonant, colourful and rounder sound. This trumpet model is perfect to help you achieve a beautiful lyrical sound and is versatile enough to cut through a big band when required. The latest release features beautiful dark mother of pearl valve tops (buttons), two tuning slides - Traditional "D shape" and also new "Rounded Profile" for two completely different airflow, sound and centering results. "Pimp your horn" with your choice of red, green or brown valve felts plus silver plated or gold lacquered valve caps, slides, or maybe some other custom or personalised options.
"When i was a young player, I was captivated by Bob Venier playing beautiful lyrical jazz lines. He has remained my absolute favourite flugelhorn player since. Bob has been perhaps Australia's most versatile professional trumpet player for decades now, and his playing is as precise and heartfelt as ever. To have Bob playing one of my horns is a dream come true. He play tested a number of Temby models including cryo treated silver custom models, but finally settled on a custom raw brass "Vintage" instrument which we then modified to become his own signature model. His sound is magical on this horn - thanks Bob!"
Recognised as one of Australia's leading trumpet players, Bob has been in constant demand as both a studio session musician and a jazz soloist for the last three decades. He started his career inBallarat playing dixieland, mainstream and big band music with local bands, before moving to Melbourne where he played with Smacka Fitzgibbon at "Smacka's" for 3 years. Bob joined The Garry Hyde Tradition quartet in 1967 (playing brass and percussion as well as singing) and for 6 years played with them in Australia, England, Europe and Asia and on cruise ships sailing between New York and Bermuda. In the early 70's, Bob joined the ABC Orchestra where he played percussion for 2 years before moving to the brass section for a further 10 years. In 1978 he joined the modern jazz quartet Pyramid and performed at the Montreaux and North Seas Festivals. As first trumpet he toured Australia and the USA with the Bi-Centennial Australia Jazz Orchestra in 1988, and also featured as flugelhorn soloist with Don Burrows and James Morrison. During the 80's and 90's, Bob was a regular musician on leading TV shows including The Don Lane Show, The Bert Newton Show, Young Talent Time and The Steve Vizard Show. He has also been the featured soloist on albums by various artists, most notably The Little River Band track, Reminiscing.

Here's an email conversation between Eric Bolvin and David Temby in 2011 after Steve Hall, Australian trumpet player sent his Temby Vintage Trumpet for Eric to try out.
Hi, Steve Hall just sent me a Temby Vintage Trumpet and I love it! Here's my site http://www.bolvinmusic.com/
Hi Eric,
Thanks for the compliment on my horns. This one is 2005 model and was played (until Steve purchased it) by a strong lead player in Melbourne. It has had a lot of playing during that time and a few repairs to the lead pipe - straightening and stay resolders. I am originally a trumpet player, and I do all the design, modelling and development work (having a couple of decades of design and manufacturing of saxophones and flutes) and our partners who make some boutique horns do all our heavy engineering work. We do the final work in our Melbourne workshops including customising. I recall I did some minor bell mods to this horn - very slightly thinner at the rim than normal. The bore and tapers are similar to Bach 37 but you will notice the horn is lighter weight. We use a rose brass alloy on that model (not as much copper as gold brass)
Some players like this model cryo treated also - gives a little more focus and upper partial harmonic embellishment.
Again, many thanks for your nice comments
Kind regards,
David
Thanks Dave! I had a Bach 37 and like the Vintage more. It also seems heavier. What do you call the water keys? So you do the cryo? What does that cost?
Thanks Eric,
That's excellent news. Maybe it's the medium heavy valve caps on this Vintage that makes it feel heavier? Water keys are "Amado" style but with a slight difference that I worked out . Cryo - we do a deep cyclic cryo which takes @ 10 hours - it's the best way for horns in my experience - $150 does the job
